School Opening Information

 

The Sargent Public Schools will begin the 2008-2009 school year on Friday, August 15th.  Kindergarten will start on this date.

August 15th School begins at 8:10 AM Monday thru Thursday.  Classes will begin daily at 8:20 AM- 3:36 PM Friday dismissal at 3:12 PM.

Buses will run the first day of school, August 15th. Bus routes will be published in a newsletter with pick-up times for all families eligible to ride the buses.

The lunch program will begin Friday, August 15th and all students are welcome to the service.  The lunch program is federally subsidized and there will be free and reduced lunches and breakfasts for students whose families qualify.  Applications for free and reduced lunches and breakfasts may be obtained from the main office.

 

Activities-Programs

 

 

The Sargent Schools have wide—based activity programs.  It is the philosophy of the district that all who want to participate may do so.  The activities program assists the academic curriculum in the development of young people.

The secondary schools offer the following co-curricular activities: Drama Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook, Future Farmers of America, Student Plays, and Speech.

Athletic programs include volleyball, football, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and boy and girls track.

 

Absence on the Day of an Activity

 

In order for any student to participate in any activity a student must be in attendance ˝ day prior to the contests or practice on the day of the activity unless it is a pre-excused absence.  Emergency pre-excuses will be accepted by the principal, via telephone, up until 8:45 AM on the day of the absence.

Students scheduled to be absent from instructional hours for interscholastic sports, clubs and contests shall be required to make up all assigned school academic work in an acceptable manner before leaving and being excused for the activity.  Failure to comply with this procedure shall be cause for the students not to attend the scheduled activity as part of the school sponsored team or group.

 

 

 

 

Ticket Prices & Passes

 

 

For the 2007-2008 school year all student in grades 7-12 that participate in extra-curricular activities will be required to purchase an activity pass for $20.  This ticket will allow admittance to all Sargent home activities. Elementary students will have the same option of purchasing a similar ticket for $10 or paying admission at home activities.  Pre-school free.

All faculty and press passes from other towns admitted free.

Volleyball players from other towns will be admitted free to the football games and football players will be admitted free to the volleyball games.

Cheerleaders in uniform are admitted free!

Admission Prices: $4.00 Adults; $3.00 Students; Bus drivers admitted free; All Sargent School Employees, Board Members and spouses admitted free.

 

Catastrophic Insurance

 

  1. Students participating in interscholastic sports sponsored by the Nebraska School Activities Association at the high school level are covered by the basic Catastrophic Accident Medical Policy and Liability Policy with Lifetime Medical and Disability Settlement Option.  The premium for this coverage is paid from Association Funds.
  2. Seventh and eight grade students participating in interscholastic sports are covered by the same Catastrophic Accident and Medical Policy.  The premium for this coverage is paid by the school district.
  3. The Catastrophic Accident and Medical Policy carried by the NSSA and school district does not exclude the need for insurance policies by each family for injury as the catastrophic insurance picks up the injury once the cost exceeds a designated amount.

 

 

Pre-School Handicapped Services

 

Services must be provided for all handicapped children from birth (or date of diagnosis) to age 21.  Parents in the district who suspect that their pre-school child might have a handicapping condition should contact Robert Brown, Superintendent (308) 527-4119, so that arrangements can be made for appropriate evaluation.

 

Handicapped Children

 

The Board of Education, Sargent Public Schools, District 84, wishes to reaffirm its position that all children in the Sargent School District, regardless of their handicapping condition are entitled to a free appropriate public education, an equal opportunity for education according to the individual’s need.  The Board assumes the responsibility to assure that handicapped children are identified, evaluate and verified, and are provided or contracted for program services for all residents handicapped children who benefit from such programs.  These programs shall include but not be restricted to the development of self-realization, social awareness, economic usefulness and civic responsibility as required by law.

To avoid expensive duplication every effort will be made to utilize established programs in cooperation with all contracting agencies approved by the Department of Education.  The right to an appeal of an educational placement of a handicapped child shall be available to the parents and/or guardian of all children who have handicapping conditions.

  All the above classes are required and must be taken in the year specified.  These classes must be passed, should the student fail he or she will need to retake the class.  Students are required to take 6 solid classes.

 

Elective Classes

There are a large number of electives which may be taken to support the above required classes.  These electives are too numerous to mention so they will be listed at the time of registration in the spring.

All students are required to enroll in a minimum of academic subjects.  Requirements for graduation are 200 hours.
