LOUP VALLEY ROAD RIDERS- Is a motorcycle club welcome to all! This group donates to cancer fighting organizations and helps the community. They have a large gathering of followers. SEWING FOR BABIES - Sewing for Babies is a non-profit organization in Nebraska.  The mission is to provide warmth through blankets and clothing for needy and sick babies in Nebraska.  They sew, crochet, and knit blankets and clothing to provide babies in need..  In Sargent, a group of 10-12 ladies get together the first Wednesday of the month to sew these items.  The clothing items are then distributed by the Sewing for Babies group in Minden.  The items go to over 37 hospitals and agencies. Preemie clothing is expensive and hard to find.  So we provide preemie clothing to neonatal intensive care units and for parents taking home preemie babies.  We also specialize in burial layettes for hospitals and individuals.

SARGENT WOMEN'S ACTION TEAM - Commonly known as SWAT, was formed in 1984 as an outgrowth of Jaycees for Women.  SWAT is an organization of women 18 years of age and older and currently boasts a membership totaling sixty-five.  Team members are devoted to the betterment of their community and its future.  SWAT has had numerous fundraisers to help raise money for big and small projects.  Some of these projects include the new Sargent Community Center, a new sound system and pressbox for the school, improvements to the park, swimming pool and ballfield. Numerous hours have been volunteered by members to help with the bloodmobile, the Sargent fair and many other local projects.  Some of our fundraisers we have had are selling fireworks, serving appreciation dinners and putting on plays.  We are always looking for ways to help our great town of Sargent.  All are welcome. GROWING YOUNG SENIOR CITIZENS -Various seniors served on the board over the years meeting each month.  They all take their turn hosting the pot luck noon meals and card games once a month. . As the seniors grew older and the group became smaller they were unable to earn money for expenses, they decided to dismiss the supervisor and each person donated 25 cents or more if  they wished at the pot luck meals and card games, later raised to .50 cents each.  Now, in 2008 the attendance is from 11 to 20 some folks, far from the 74 seniors back in 1987.  They enjoy the good meals, fellowship and card games, the 3rd Sunday each month held at the Sargent Commuity Center.

SARGENT AMERICAN LEGION POST #104 - The Sargent Legion is still a viable organization, although our monthly meetings and smokers have become sparse.  Most of our members are World War II veterans, a few Korean and a few Vietnam veterans.  We have 58 paid up members, 34 of whom live in the Sargent area, Of these 34 veterans, 26 are World War II and Korean veterans, putting their ages in the 80’s. As they look to the future, the groups membership really beginning to decline because of the ages of the veterans.  They have no young men and women from the Sargent area serving in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan at this time but they are hoping young veterans will soon join. The Legion Post still sponsors Boy’s State and Junior Law Cadet programs.  They help at military funerals, Veteran’s Day programs, and flying the flags at the cemetery on Memorial Day.  They also help with the color guards marching in parades in the surrounding area towns. The Legion Post 104 officers for 2008 are Daniel Sasek –Commander and Adjutant, and Tom Kleeb – Finance Officer.

P.E.O CHAPTER CW - P.E.O. Chapter CW was organized in Sargent on April 17th, 1923 with 13 charter members.  P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women: educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and motivate each other to achieve their highest aspirations.  It is an international organization that spans approximately 140 years and has provided over $147 million in educational assistance for more than 73,000 women.  At present the Sargent chapter has 20 members.  It has provided loans, grants, and scholarships to many women in the area.  In the past year the chapter sponsored a local woman for a grant to complete her education degree and also sponsored another area woman for a loan to complete her nursing degree.  For over 20 years the local chapter has awarded scholarships to women of the graduating classes of Sargent High School.  Last year’s scholarship winner is now attending the University of Nebraska- Kearney. Chapter CW is proud of the contributions they have made in the last 85 years to the women of the community of Sargent from helping teachers in the 1930’s complete their education to helping women with advanced degrees in the 21st century.  We’ve come a long way! AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY BENHART/KLAPAL UNIT 104 - The Sargent ladies have been very active since they first organized. There are presently 49 members and their activities and projects include sponsoring a girls state representative, distributing poppies, decorating veterans’ graves, honoring teachers during National Education Week, serving the SHS seniors after County Government Day, working at County Government Day and blood mobiles.  They also march in parades, serve funeral dinners when needed, and provide food and snacks to the Veterans’ Hospital and Home.  The officers include: President: JacE Coslor; Vice President: Joan Sheets; Secretary: Bonnie Pulliam; Treasurer: Irene Sinner; Chaplain: Mary Poland; Historian: Phylbert Johnson; Sargeant at Arms: Merlene Grint

THE “OVER THE HILL GANG” (1978…) - The purpose of the “Over the Hill Gang” is #1--- CELEBRATE EACH ONES BIRTHDAY DATE, #2---On FRIDAYS FRIED CHICKEN DAY at #3---THE COMSTOCK DEN (Call ahead) and #4--- NO GIFTS, just a card.  Yes, the “Over the Hill Gang” goes on as they enjoy fun and laughs about the present and past along with their “Precious Memories” of Bessie Landreth and Nellie Gibbons.

THE COUNTRY RAMBLERS - Did you ever have the opportunity to be included in a group to just have fun making music but with only one requirement.  You had to play “by ear”.  That seems to be a God-given talent as you just HEAR---PRACTICE over and over and then PLAY with the group.  The group began with two neighbors doing just THAT---for fun.  They were Richard Gibson and Gene Nelson. The latest member is Marvin Dowse who joined in with his accordion.  Their goal is to make people happy!  For certain it works for them!! They play at one care home or event per week----regularly in Broken Bow and Sargent. ( sometimes elsewhere) and usually on Mondays and sometimes on Fridays.  They are glad to have you join in anytime!

BBC GROUP THERAPY BOOK CLUB - They meet once a month and discuss the book that they all agreed to read. It's a fun group and discussions can get pretty deep. All are welcome. They take turns hosting and leading the group into discussion. Everyone brings a bottle of wine or cheese and crackers! Contact Tracy Drake or Sheri Ricketson. Hey Book Club Members: The next book we are reading is "The Gate House" by Nelson Demille. It is 677 pages long so get to reading. The next meeting is April 17th at Naomi White's house and Mandi is leading discussion.

LADIES SALAD LUNCHEON- Is a group of ladies that meet once or twice a year. One of their get togethers is usually on the weekend of the Chokecherry festival. Everyone brings a salad and they usually have a speaker with a theme party. They like to play bingo afterwards and the group is quite large. All are welcome!

CUSTER COUNTY 4-H CLUB - 4-H is an organization for boy and girls who are 8 to 19 years old during the current year. It is open to everyone and is sponsored by the University of Nebraska Extension (of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln). 4-H is a way to learn about many topics. The many projects and activities of 4-H can help you learn about interesting things and meet new people. Camps- As a member of the Custer County 4-H School Enrichment Program, you are eligible to participate in summer 4-H camps. Most camps are held in June and July, at the State 4-H Camp near Halsey, Nebraska. You will receive more information about the camps in May. Clubs- Another opportunity to become more involved is to join a traditional 4-H club or form a new club with three or more of your friends and an adult for your leader. These clubs work on 4-H projects throughout the year. Projects are chosen by the 4-Her so individual interests can be met. CARD CLUB - A group of ladies get together to play pinochle and pitch. Every Thursday and Tuesday. All are welcome including the boys! Each member takes turns to host the games.
